EEC Consortia for Housing Associations -- Phase 3 (Energy for Sustainable Development)

There are eight regional EEC Consortia currently operational (2 more being developed) – with over £3.3 million of EEC funding identified for the housing association members to date. Each EEC Consortia aims to support housing associations through the process of attracting EEC funding, and advising on strategies to maximise the benefits from EEC. The Consortia will develop as a network and platform for wider energy programmes than the initial EEC focus.

No prior knowledge of the EEC is required – just simply turn up to your next regional Consortia meeting.

Social Housing Energy Forum

Warwickshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (WEEAC) is piloting a 12 month project aimed at helping housing associations tackle energy and sustainability issues. This takes the form of a quarterly Forum where members can raise specific issues and seek solutions from other members. It also provides discussion on examples of best practice with a view to replication. A key objective is to assist all members in accessing matched funding for energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements and co-operating on joint tendering to achieve best value.

Forum meetings have been arranged for 17 December 2003, 24 March 2004, 23 June 2004 and 22 September 2004 and membership is open to any housing association with properties within Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Coventry.

A full report on the project, which is jointly supported by the Energy Saving Trust and Housing Corporation, will be available by October 2004.

Sustainable Construction – Introductory and Advanced courses (Construction Resources)

Introductory Courses

This introductory course is for all individuals requiring a better understanding of the issues and drivers for sustainable construction within social housing.

It aims to show the benefits to social landlords, their tenants and their housing stock of a more sustainable approach to new construction, refurbishment and housing management.

This seminar is aimed at individuals involved in design, construction and maintenance within housing associations.

Advanced Courses

This advanced level course is intended to focus on attendees’ specific current and future projects to ensure that co-ordinated and effective decisions are made at the design stage of a scheme. It is targeted at housing associations that have a detailed understanding of their development objectives and have a high level commitment to implement changes and improvements to their schemes.

This course is offered to small groups of between 5 -10 individuals, senior development and project managers. It is recommended attendees submit a current or future project, prior to their arrival, so that the day can be focused on the projects themselves.

In addition, each attendee will be entitled to a day’s consultancy to their project team, at their offices, to work through in detail the scheme’s already outlined during the group day.
