LSDF case study Canal Street, Nottingham

The LSDF

The LSDF's are designed to bring together local housing providers, local authority housing and planning experts, representatives from resident’s panels and other local experts to discuss and review schemes for affordable housing supported by Housing Corporation funding. Any stakeholder, including Development Partners, can put forward schemes for review at a forum. It is envisaged that schemes will be brought forward in the early stages of design prior to a detailed planning application being submitted. There will also be an emphasis on key strategic schemes and/or schemes involving new ways of working.

LSDF masterplan  The forums will be jointly facilitated and financed by Housing Corporation and Opun, the architecture and built environment centre for the East Midlands, within Regeneration East Midlands. Opun manages the East Midlands Design Review Panel; members of the regional panel will participate in the LSDF meetings to input to discussions about design quality.

The housing provider puts together a scheme proposal/presentation which is circulated to forum members who are encouraged to visit the sites prior to the forum.  The forum is held in the offices of one of the local authorities.  On the day each scheme will get an hour for members to receive a 20 minute presentation by the provider, discuss the scheme and make their recommendations.
