Starting in May 2006, we have been running a project to implement an environmental management system (EMS), using BS 8555. Looking at our environmental footprint has led us to adopt a series of projects covering a range of issues:

• Waste management
• Transport and travel
• Procurement
• Energy
• Paper use

In tackling these topics, we have discovered that it is important to share ideas and learn from each other. Consequently, we are suggesting a joint pilot project with approximately 20 London-based RSLs called " Greening our Offices”. This would involve representatives from Housing Corporation corporate support staff and a member of an Innovation and Development team working with representatives from the London RSLs. The intention is to use the lessons learned to date and share best practice, allowing us to work together to develop innovative strategies for improving our own environmental performance and begin to raise awareness throughout the sector.

It is envisaged that the group will meet quarterly, at a member of the project teams offices, and the pilot will run for 12 months.
