In August 2004, the Housing Corporation introduced a regulatory requirement whereby housing associations are obliged to have their performance reporting systems externally validated on a regular basis. The Corporation is of the view that associations receive maximum benefit from the validation if it is carried out by external and independent third parties. There are however opportunities for internal auditors to be involved in relation to validation of performance reporting systems within their organisations. This publication provides guidance on how internal auditors can take advantage of those opportunities.
