Housing Corporation Corporate Plan 2005-08
This year we celebrate 30 years of Social Housing Grant, a system of public subsidy that has stimulated independent housing associations to grow and prosper, building affordable homes and creating strong communities.
Since the Housing Corporation was created in 1964, we have funded almost one million new homes. Working with housing associations we have led the way in urban regeneration, tackled the problems of rural areas, and pioneered low-cost home ownership.
In doing so, we have helped house hundreds of thousands of homeless people and others living in poor housing conditions. We have provided affordable homes for those on modest incomes, among them key workers, and developed and built tailor-made schemes for older people and those with disabilities. Our work with black and minority ethnic housing associations is unequalled anywhere else in Europe.
This three-year plan sets out how the Housing Corporation will continue our proud record of achievement in meeting housing and community needs and aspirations, and lead and stimulate innovation, so that we and our partners -- in public and private sectors -- can do more in the future.
