Source WP4: Changing demand and unpopular housing

The housing debate in Great Britain at the end of the 1990s is preoccupied with issues about the demand for increased housing arising from population growth and increased household formation. However, alongside this there is increasing evidence and concern about what has been referred to as low demand affecting the social rented sector and parts of the private sector. Alongside high levels of housing need there is evidence that the demand for properties in some parts of towns and cities is low. Associated with this there are neighbourhoods with high levels of turnover and the problems of stability in these areas are increasingly linked to concerns about crime and safety and the agenda about regeneration.
