Exhibition summary:

An exhibition highlighting real life stories of how gaining an affordable home has helped transform the lives of 22 residents from across the country launches in London and Manchester next month.

The exhibition, entitled Open, showcases stunning images accompanied by the voices of residents themselves, speaking openly and telling astonishing and affecting stories about how their lives have been changed through access to high quality affordable housing.

The London exhibition will be held  in GRETRA Hall, Vincent Street, London SW1P 4HB – a community hall on an historic Westminster social housing estate that will be transformed into an art gallery for the exhibition.

The Manchester exhibition will  be held in a five-bedroom social house in Manchester.

The exhibition has been sponsored by government housing agency the Housing Corporation to celebrate the impact of its investment in affordable homes over the last 40 years. The Housing Corporation commissioned leading photographic artist Tim Wainwright to produce a body of work to capture how the affordable housing has changed the lives of social housing residents and the communities in which they live.

Tim travelled across the country meeting social housing tenants to capture their stories with his camera and tape recorder.
