Theme 1: Establish and develop the tenant group

If no tenant group exists:

  • Identify appropriate ways to contact possible participants
  • Recruit a steering group
  • In all cases:
  • Ensure that the steering group understands the aims and content of the Options Study
  • Review how far the steering group is representative and accountable
  • Assist the group to recruit more members
  • Ensure training* is provided in equal opportunities
  • Ensure training* is provided in committee and organisation skills including officer skills, meeting skills, promoting participation and basic financial control

Ensure training is provided* on:

  • The workings of local government
  • Housing finance
  • The making of policy, especially in relation to the group’s objectives

Ensure training* is provided on:

  • Negotiating skills
  • Assertiveness
  • publicity
