Moving out of your parents’ house and settling into a first home of your own is a
defining moment, but one which more and more young people are having to wait for.

For Becky Sharrett and her partner Phil Taylor, the big break came recently with the
development of a £4.6 million scheme of 40 new homes for rent and shared ownership in and around Robson Street in Warrington.

Through New Build HomeBuy the couple are buying a 50% share in a new three-bedroom house. They will rent the remaining share from the scheme’s developer, Warrington Housing Association.

“This is our first house and we’re absolutely thrilled with it,” says Rebecca. “House prices have gone up in Warrington just like everywhere else and we just couldn’t afford to buy any other way.”

Becky works for a hotel and Phil for a health and safety company and by pooling their incomes they were able to make the sums add up to buy their new home.

“The location is great as we are near work and both sets of parents. The house is just what we wanted,” says Becky.
