Appointment of first Chair of Homes and Community Agency welcomed

The appointment of  Robert Napier as the first Chair of The Homes and Community Agency has been welcomed by the Housing Corporation.

Peter Dixon, Chairman of the Housing Corporation said, "I am delighted that Robert Napier has been appointed to the post and wish him every success in this important role."

1)Biography of Robert Napier

Robert Napier took up the post of Chairman of English Partnerships in January 2008, having been a Non-Executive Director since March 2004. Robert is also Chairman of the Board of the Met Office. He was Chief Executive of WWF-UK, the UK arm of the World Wide Fund for Nature from 1999 to April 2007. Before that he spent 16 years at Redland plc, where he was successively Financial Director, Managing Director and Chief Executive.

He is currently a Non-Executive Director of Anglian Water Services and is also Chairman of the trustees of the Carbon Disclosure Project .Robert was formerly Chairman of the CBI Transport Policy Committee and President of the National Council of Building Material Producers.

2)The Housing Corporation is responsible for regulating housing associations, which provide some two million homes across England. 

3)The Housing Corporation is the Government's national affordable homes agency, responsible for investing in new affordable homes and regulating nearly 2,000 housing associations across England. The Corporation's £8 billion investment programme for 2008-11 is its biggest ever. Its previous investment programme of £3.9 billion for 2006-08 is funding 84,000 homes; 49,000 of these are for affordable rent, and 35,000 are for affordable sale through the Government's HomeBuy initiatives, helping people to get a foot on the property ladder.

4) The Housing Corporation is working with English Partnerships and Communities and Local Government to establish the proposed Homes and Communities Agency and Office for Tenants and Social Landlords.
