Statutory appointments to housing association governing bodies - setting up a pool of potential appointees

The Housing Corporation is looking for committed individuals with suitable skills and experience to join a pool of potential appointees to the boards of housing associations which are placed under supervision.

The role is demanding and calls for a range of personal skills including:

  • Objectivity – able to stand back and take a critical look at presenting problems before reaching conclusions.
  • Analytical /problem solving – good skills in analysing complex organisational and personnel issues.
  • Confidence – able to deal with conflict and opposition and to hold firm to your own judgements on what needs to be done to tackle underlying problems.
  • Team working – able to work with fellow appointees, existing board members, staff and key stakeholders in securing agreement to remedial action and improvements.
  • Communication – good oral and written communication skills and ability to inter–relate with people from different disciplines and backgrounds.
  • Diplomacy – discretion in the handling of sensitive issues and confidential information.

While housing association knowledge and expertise is valuable – and most of those we appoint to the boards of failing organisations come from the sector – we are keen to attract interest from those working in other sectors.  We are also particularly interested in hearing from those from minority ethnic groups given the diversity of housing associations and the communities they serve.

If you think this may be of interest to you or someone you know please read the information sheet carefully.  Applications must be made using the application form which can be downloaded and returned either electronically or in hard copy form.
