Design focus - Parkside Court, Stockton

Residents of Parkside Court have been involved in designing their new homes. They worked with Anchor Trust, after the local council gave the association the go ahead to knock down the old 1960s-built care home, John F Kennedy House.

Stockton Council had originally thought that a simple refurbishment of the scheme would be enough, but after inspecting it, the association said that demolition and rebuilding would be better for residents.

Meetings were held with tenants to talk about the proposed designs for the new scheme, and every tenant was given the option of moving back into the scheme once the building work was complete.

Those tenants that wanted to come back were offered first choice from the 31 two-bedroom flats and 17 two-bedroom bungalows, and they picked the tiling and flooring they wanted for their bathrooms and kitchens.

The £4 million construction work is now complete and Parkside Court is fully let. It operates with a care team based on site, provided by Anchor Trust, which provides 450 hours per week of personal care to the tenants.
