Housing Corporation News Release
Thematic Reviews launched by Corporation
9 May 2007 Ref: 48/07
Thematic reviews on Resident involvement and Disposals have been published by the Housing Corporation today (9 May 2007). The two reports form part of new suite of four publications.
Introduced as a new regulatory product in 2006, the Thematic Reviews use existing sources of data that the Corporation holds on housing associations, examining specific areas of performance, or performance by specific sections of the housing association sector.
The reports will not only enable regulators to come to an overview of sector performance, targeting regulatory engagement, but will also enable associations to use the analysis to benchmark their own performance again their peers.
Forming part of the Corporation's policy review process, the thematic review on Resident Involvement follows a recommendation in the Elton Review that the Corporation should 'review its resident involvement policy'. The report will contribute towards ensuring that associations can respond positively to neighbourhood and community policies.
The review on Disposals examines the volume and frequency with which associations are selling rented units and the reasons behind these decisions.
Housing Corporation Director of Regulation, Clare Miller, said, "The Corporation is committed to continuing to meet Elton's recommendations by contributing to greater transparency as to how it carries out its regulatory function.
"Designed to comment on important issues facing the sector, the Thematic Reviews are a vital way in which the Corporation can provide valuable feedback to both housing associations and their key stakeholders."
The Thematic Reviews on Disposals and Resident Involvement are available on the Housing Corporation website - www.housingcorp.gov.uk. Two further reviews, on Efficiency and the Decent Home Standard, will be published shortly.
Ends.
