Construction companies – Office of Fair Trading announcement and guidance

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) announced on 17 April 2008 that it has issued a Statement of Objections to 112 companies alleged to have engaged in bid-rigging activities, particularly cover pricing, in the construction sector.

The OFT's statement will be of interest to all housing associations in relation to their procurement of construction, repairs and maintenance and other related services.

The OFT has issued a guidance note setting out its views as to action that might be taken in response to its announcement, and in particular the potential for exclusion of the companies under investigation from future tender lists.

Housing associations will wish to take note of the guidance, which is available on the OFT's website.
